Beauty | What “CURVY” Means to Us

Hello Beauties!

Today's post is particularly special because I am teaming up with other plus size bloggers to share what I feel the word curvy means. I have always felt the word curvy was a sexy, empowering word, but it wasn't one that I heard very often until I became an adult. I remember looking in the mirror as a teenager with my pear shape and wondering why did my hips have to be so large. It wasn't until later that I started to embrace my curves and even feel a hint of sexiness with them.

Here are my thoughts on the word curvy based on questions from In My Joi:

1. Explain how you define the word curvy.

I define curvy as exactly how it sounds; a person with curves or a voluptuous shape.

2. Do you consider yourself to be curvy?

I most certainly do!

3. Has your perception of the definition of the word curvy changed, since joining the online plus-size community?

I think I have always loved and embraced the word curvy once I began hearing it as an adult. I think I love it even more now that I follow so many plus size bloggers who truly know how to work their curves and aren't afraid to do so!

4. How do you feel about the public’s perception of the word curvy and its use in the plus-size community?

I think the public's perception of the word curvy is a toss up. So many beautiful, curvy ladies have shown how having curves is a blessing. With that, I think that many people now love the word and even more curvy women are not afraid to embrace their own curves and show them off. I also think there is a negative connotation that many people now have with the word. Some plus size bloggers who may not have physical curves use the word curvy too. With this, a lot of the public seems to bash the word curvy because they feel it goes for anyone plus size rather than an a woman with actual curves. You can be curvy no matter what your size; however, I don't feel it goes synonymously with being plus size.
