After doing the 30 Day Savings Challenge on Facebook a few weeks ago, I think I got a glimpse of where some of my not so cute spending habits lie. I noticed that my biggest spending habit was on going out to eat and of course, shopping. Now even though I'm still working on the eating out, I really learned a lot about myself in terms of shopping. I have always tried to be a "thrifty shopper," but I have never taken time to ask myself this question while shopping... "Do I really need this?"
I learned surprisingly that nine times out of 10, I do not need the items I pick up. I decided to clean out my closet and really take an inventory of what I needed. The top priority on my list of actual clothing needs were work attire.
Coat: Rue 21 | Skirt: Belk | Tights: Belk | Heels: ShoeDazzle (ON SALE) |
So, I decided to step up my game and through thrifting and clearance racks, I'm going to build a better work wardrobe. In fact, the clearance rack at Belk is where I purchased this leopard print skirt. I'm proud of this under $10 purchase because it was originally marked at $68. Boom!
Do you ever stop to think if you really need an item?
P.S. Did you notice I changed my hair? Read the details here.
God bless & stay fabellis,
I didn't do a savings challenge but I was forced to looka t how I spend when my paychecks were looking skimp and I decided to stay on top of my bills better. I went through my clothes and I had a ton with tags and ton of stuff i couldn't fit, a ton of stuff that i didn't wear on a regular basis. Just too much stuff. I sold a lot on Ebay and kept the money in a savings. Now when i shop no matter how much of a bargin if it's pretty I still ask DO i need this, can i wear this now without losing weight or altering? I ask myself a lot of questions and then I end up putting it down.
ReplyDeleteI got that same skirt from Belks during their red dot clearance sale! I usually clean out my closet every season and make a list of things I need. Recently I realized I had no short sleeved shirts that fit properly and no skirts AT ALL so I've been focusing on those items. I always shop clearance, but my problem is that I go overboard b/c I get such good deals, so I'm going to try not to buy any clothing during the month of April.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great find! I love the skirt and nothing is better than a great deal! I try to clean my closet out every few months or so... in particular if I have been doing a lot of shopping -- just to re-assess and clear things out that I am not wearing... that also helps me re-discover items from time to time too! Again- great look!

You look gorgeous. I've spent less on 10 items at the thrift store than on 1 top at the mall!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kiah! Thrifting can be so fun.
ReplyDeleteI may need to take your tip on checking my closet every few months. It had been AWHILE since I had last cleaned my closet so it was a major haul when I did clean it. It really opened my eyes to a lot of things though. Thank you so much for stopping by Kenya!
ReplyDeleteHey Carmesha! Thanks for stopping by. Great minds think alike. I picked this skirt up as soon as I saw it. I am the same way when it comes to clearance. Sometimes shopping thrift allows me to slow down on that and giving myself a $20 budget. I know you can reach that goal of no shopping in April. Trust me, I couldn't believe it when I did it, but I did!
ReplyDeleteYou know... It actually shows that your boss cares for you as an employee to do that. Cleaning out my closet really helped me see the same thing you are saying. I was like... Some of these items are cute, but just not work appropriate. I have found that Target and Walmart really have some affordable, nice work wear. I'm going to try to post some things I found at Walmart recently. Thanks for always stopping by and commenting! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove!! Great find!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! :-)
