Today's review is Part One of a three part series. It has been a few weeks since I removed my crochet braids and I am back to styling this thick head of hair again on a weekly basis. With my tapered cut, I prefer to style my hair with gel to create defined coil outs and twist outs. Pam of Koils by Nature sent over a few products for me to try from her collection, including one of her gels. Today I will be reviewing the Soothing Herbal Curl Defining Unscented Gel.

My Thoughts
I am totally here for affordable natural hair products! You all know that that's my mantra. My first thoughts when I tried this gel were that I was surprised by the loose consistency of it and how little you needed to use. Although the consistency was new for me, it was nice because it wasn't sticky and thick. I love the fact also that this is unscented so I didn't have to worry about an overpowering smell.
In the two occasions that I used this product, I can say that it definitely defines curls VERY well! My curls were popping immediately as I raked it through each detangled section of my hair. I chose to use this product for a coil out. My curls were beautiful, but I was disappointed by how dry my hair felt after Day 1 of each coil out. Although the curls were gorgeous and didn't look dry, they felt dry/crunchy when you touched my hair.
Since this product has a softer hold, I feel that this product would be ideal for my 3C/4A curls as a wash and go product. That's precisely how I plan to use it next!

Would I Recommend?
Yes. Although it didn't provide what I was personally expecting, I think this product is definitely great for those looking for a natural hair gel. Also, I think it is ideal for someone looking for a gel that actually leaves their hair soft. For twist outs, I prefer a harder hold, but this is a great product for wash and gos and with the approaching warmer weather, it's the perfect time for a wash and go!
God bless & stay fabellis,

I just love your curls! Thanks for sharing this product...I need to find it.
ReplyDeleteYou hair looks FABULOUS!! I am all about natural products on my hair because most other products contain alcohol and dry my hair out..yuck!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jeanae for checking out my review and for the sweet compliment! I think you would enjoy this product. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you as always Ricci! :-) I completely agree on the alcohol. I'm so glad so many companies are jumping on the bandwagon to have more natural ingredients in their products!
ReplyDeleteYour curls are POPPIN! I've been using Eco Styler Gel (black) for my twistouts and have yet to find another good styling gel. I'll need to give this one a try.
ReplyDeleteLove your curls. I may try this on my daughters natural hair. He edges don't like to be tamed.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I think this would be nice for your daughter's hair. Gentle and all natural! Thank you for stopping by! :-)
ReplyDeleteI still love Eco Styler Gel! Girl, what are you talking about? LOL! I think this is great to try if you are looking for popping curls with a wash n go without that crunch.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this testimony! Always looking for something for my babies hair. You're looking flawless might I add.
ReplyDeleteI have the GALLON tub of eco styler gel but have always wanted to try a gel like this. Thanks for the great honest review sis!
ReplyDeleteI havent heard of it but your hair looks Fabulous with it!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of it, but your hair looks awesome! Glad you liked it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review! Always good to learn about new products. Will you or have you tried Eden products yet?
ReplyDeleteI've heard good things about this line. It is pricey though!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! It is definitely a higher price point than what I'm used to, but it works great! :-)
ReplyDeleteGirl, thank you! :-) I definitely think this is perfect for younger children. Very gentle.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I am so mad you put GALLON in all caps. Hilarious! I definitely think you would love this if you are looking for a softer hold. Thank you for always being supportive sis! :-)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much Alli! I appreciate you stopping by! :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course! I appreciate you checking it out. :-) I have tried Eden BodyWorks. I have only tried the Coconut Shea line. I love their leave in conditioner and curl defining cream. I reviewed the curl defining cream here: http://www.fabellis.com/2013/09/natural-hair-eden-bodyworks-all-natural.html
ReplyDeleteI tried the eco styler gel for a wash and go and my hair was a hot crunchy mess! SMH
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great product for me to give a try. Thanks for linking up at #ProductReviewParty
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Thanks for stopping by Victoria!
ReplyDeleteYour curls look beautiful! (And I like the color, too. I've been toying with the idea of coloring mine, but I have virgin hair -- nothing has been done to any of it-- so every time I seriously think about pulling the trigger, I back off, but I digress...)
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of this brand before...where did you get yours?
I wear my hair straight, but I am constantly on the look-out for natural products for my baby girl's curls. I am not too much of a fan of the Kinky-Kurly Curling custard because it flakes.
Thanks for this! Stopping by from #ProductReviewParty and am following now on P, FB, and T, too. :-)
Thank you for the tip on the LOC method!
ReplyDeleteYour curls did pop! I need to look into this for my sons natural curls. Thanks for the heads up! #productreviewparty
